Burao College of Health Sciences aims to train professionals with higher education and qualified for the respected professions. To produce well trained midwifes, the department of nursing and midwifery needs to have expert midwife teachers to implement the BScM midwifery program as well as the community midwifery program. Therefore, strengthening the midwifery faculty teachers is a priority

Aim

The aim is that graduate midwives will:

  • Work toward the advancement of midwifery practice and the profession of midwifery as leaders and change agents.
  • Provide safe, competence, and timely care to childbearing women and families.
  • Contribute to the reduction of maternal and infant morbidity and mortality.
  • Act always with honest, integrity and without discrimination to others whatever their ethnic group, faith, gender, nationality or culture.
  • Work in collaboration with the community and with professional colleagues.
  • Become lifelong learners who can reflect on and improve their practice and encourage and support others to do the same.

Vision

Student midwives will be prepared in such a way that they fulfil:

  1. The academic requirements to graduate from their universities and
  2. The professional requirements of the government and professional associations based on internationally accepted competencies.They will be able to provide comprehensive midwifery care for the Somaliland(and wider] population in whatever environment that it is needed, supporting the health of communities in which they live and work . They will be at the forefront of the development of midwifery as a profession in Somaliland, and of the development of high-quality health service. The vision is also that university-based faculty and clinical staff will respect and trust each other and will recognize and utilize each other as experts.
